We learn these words for mastery not only because they pop up everywhere, but they are often words that don't follow the expected, normal, phonics rules or contain rules we don't know yet. 

We will begin to learn these tricky words at the end of Unit 3.  The cool thing is, some words that are tricky will become totally decodeable the more we learn about phonics!
